For applicants

Submission guidelines

This call addresses doctoral researchers at all stages, and welcomes postdoctoral researchers and researchers in academic and professional practice.

All contributions must be original and may not be submitted simultaneously to another journal or conference. Submission takes place through EasyChair.

Submission is a two-stage process. First, an anonymous abstract package; then, for accepted applicants, an essay, visual essay or artefact documentation prepared through the CA²RE peer-review process.

Stage 1 — Abstract submission

Prepare the following. Items 1–3 must be combined into a single anonymous PDF; the preferred presentation format and short CV are submitted separately through EasyChair.

1 · Abstract (3,000 characters)

  • title
  • research topic and context
  • concepts and methods
  • expected outcomes
  • relevance and originality

Please indicate whether you are a doctoral researcher, postdoctoral researcher or researcher in academic or professional practice.

2 · Reflection (3,000 characters)

A reflection on the role and meaning of matter within your research, in relation to the theme MATTERS.

  • publication permissions

The author(s) of the contribution are responsible for the authorisation to publish the images and need to provide the necessary details.

4 · Preferred presentation format

Applicants must specify their preferred presentation format: whether they intend to develop their contribution as an essay, a visual essay or an artefact, together with a brief indication of the intended mode of presentation (for example a performance, installation, prototype, screening or spatial intervention). See Stage 2 for the requirements of each format.

5 · Short CV (800 characters)
