About CA²RE

An open, diverse field of design-driven and artistic research — not prioritising any single approach.

The CA²RE Community brings together experienced academics, advanced and early-career researchers to improve research quality through intensive peer-reviewing at key intermediate stages. It wishes to contribute to the open and diverse field in design-driven and artistic research, not prioritising any single approach.

The CA²RE Community is developed through the CA²RE Conferences, organised by several European universities, as platforms to develop a collective exchange and learning environment.

Ghent 2027 — a special edition

CA²RE Ghent 2027 is hosted by the Faculty of Architecture KU Leuven and LUCA School of Arts. It combines three complementary formats into one shared platform:

Peer review

CA²RE

An established international framework for peer review and research exchange. Through intensive sessions, doctoral reviews, presentations and discussions, it connects a broad network of researchers, practitioners, supervisors and senior academics.

Assessment

ADRO

The Department of Architecture's review framework. Situating the ADRO commission within the exhibition environment tests a more situated, real-time form of evaluation for artistic and design research.

Exhibition

MATTERS

A pilot exhibition platform that makes research visible to academic, professional and public audiences — an environment in which research outputs, methods, questions and processes become discussable.
